SERIES: The Dark Series, Christine Feehan

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 10.15.07 PM.png

The series is about men who are born with a light in them but over the centuries this light begins to die out. With that, they start to loose all emotion, as well as the ability to see in color (they refer to this as a world in gray). That is (when the awesome corny romance kicks in) until they find there other half, their true soul mates. If they don’t find them they have 3 options.

1. Meet the sun (kill themselves)

2. Keep living and fighting the darkness. (Much harder than it sounds)

3. Become vampires (in this series, that’s a bad thing)

I have been reading this series for the past six years.

Before you freak out!,  this series currently has 27 books with two more about to come out. As you have probably figured out the series is incredible. I mean she does keep writing books, which I do keep reading!

Now I do have to say these books are rated R, they have a few sex scenes in each book, BUT the books are so much more than that. Each story plot is great and I must admit I am half in love with each male in this series (don’t tell my boyfriend).

I am currently in book 23 and I have already purchased the next 4 that follow – I can’t wait!

If any of you are also reading this series are want to start reading it get in touch with me so we can gossip about it.

I hope you guys enjoy this series as much as me!

Miami: Gator Park

We spent our sunny Sunday at Gator Park with our other halfs and our little mini’s. We purchased a Groupon which consisted of a boat ride through the everglades. We saw a few gators, turtles, birds, and other fishes. The boat was extreeeemely loud they even give you earplugs, but it was nice being outdoors despite the beating sun.

After the boat ride there was a short show of alligators which was pretty interesting. They also had a little cute park with other animals there as well.

It was a nice time out, we stopped my Texas Roadhouse on Flagler to eat.
Definitely recommend if you’re looking for something different to do!

The Hammocks: Amici’s Trattoria Italiana

Since we headed way south to Homestead to visit the Coral Castle, we stopped on our way back up north to have dinner at The Hammocks, a little town by Kendall. We ate at Amici’s Trattoria, let me say – great choice!

Its located in a shopping plaza, huge parking lot so for sure you’ll find parking. We chose to sit outside because there were no booths I wanted inside, but the inside is actually super cute.

My boyfriend and I shared this calamari appetizer. The sauces were both great, and there was actually a lot of calamari! I’ve experienced more breading than calamari before, but this restaurant definitely respects the breading boundary!

May and her man shared the bruschetta appetizer (it actually came with 4 pieces but halfway through the first one she remembered to take a picture lol).

So this was my entree, I had the Farfala with Sausage. This is made with Italian sausage, which is actually a very particular taste that not many people like. Its kind of “tangy”, but being hispanic and being used to a bunch of different types of sausage, I found it easy to appreciate its taste. The cream sauce was delish, and it was so much food I made two meals out of it.

fettucine alfredo.jpg

May’s Fettuccine Alfredo was also a two meal dish, and clearly the photo alone looks super tasty! They weren’t shy with the chicken which is a win, since a lot of restaurants tend to be cheap when it comes to protein in pastas.

The boys shared a Prosciutto Pizza – yum! My boyfriend really loved it, but then again he loves all pizza LOL

This was my daughters kids Pasta with Pink Sauce. OMG IT WAS SO GOOD lol next time I’m adding some chicken for her…. it was a two meal dish but could’ve used the meat.

May’s meal was actually like a, appetizer entre dessert package. She chose dulce de leche crepes… Honestly I didn’t like the burnt taste this one had, not sure if thats the normal taste or they really actually burnt it, but it wasn’t all that great.

This lovely drink was Vito Corleone – Johnny Walker Black Label & Amaretto.

The final verdict:

I would definitely go back! 15-20$ plates and they’re huge and so good that its worth it!
Service was great, so I definitely recommend this spot if you’re ever in its area.

Miami Beach: Nuvo Seafood & Pasta

My best friend invited my boyfriend and I to join her for dinner last night at Nuvo Seafood & Pasta on Washington Street in Miami. We arrived around 9 PM, and got very lucky parking (for free!). This is extremely rare when it comes to parking by Washington Street on a Friday night. With that being said, my friend paid $20 for a spot in a parking garage a few blocks down.

As you’ll be able to see below, the street is very nicely decorated and the atmosphere is very welcoming. There were kids there as well, which made me feel better since I thought twice about bringing my daughter along. Finding the restaurant was a bit tricky. The location doesn’t have a sign with the name, instead it says “Mercato Pescheria” which now that I think of it, they have seafood market inside.

Our waiter gets 3 out of 5 stars. He was dry, serious, and short. And honestly to me the personality of the waiter is crucial in your experience with the restaurant. However, towards the end of the meal someone (I’m assuming the owner since he was dressed differently) came by to ask us how we were doing and if we needed anything. So I hope I was just unlucky with my waiter.

We were seated outside and to be honest I thought everything was very pretty and nice. I saw the 2-person tables had these huge chairs that were gorgeous. Very nice, tasteful outdoor furniture. Dress code is literally whatever you want, its a  very open restaurant among so many others that theres really no room for a specific dress type. My friend was very well dressed in a white pencil skirt and cropped white blouse with heels, opposite of myself who dressed in simple dress and flats (my boyfriend in a tshirt and jeans).

I will say although the food was great, I don’t feel it was worth the money I spent. On Google this restaurant is listed as “$$” but I would say its more like “$$$” for sure.

Lets start off with a picture of my piece of heaven.

Here’s a shot I took when we were leaving (you can see my friend trying to drink her last drops of wine). As you can see, the restaurant is very small. From that blue shirted waiter to the next restaurants sign “Mojitos”. The majority of the tables are outside.

This was our appetizer (one of my mans favorite appetizers anywhere its offered): Calamari. Sorry, I remembered to take the picture after we started eating it. The basket was filled to the top and it was certainly delicious. There were two sauces, marinara and cilantro garlic.

This was my main course: Spicy Shrimp Pasta. It was very tastey, and it actually was spicy. There weren’t skimpy on the shrimp, however, for the price I paid ($27) I would’ve like something more, at least some peppers if not some scallops or something. Idk. It was literally pasta, sauce, tomatos and shrimp. I didn’t have left over either, however I was definitely full.

My other half ordered a well done Skirt Steak. It came with a few fries (no we didn’t eat anything before the picture was taken) and a jar with “pico” for the steak. He ate it all, and wasn’t left hungry.

(My daughter had eaten before at her grandma’s house, so we just ordered some fries for her. Didn’t bother for a picture with that.)

Please don’t mind my daughters poor cup to mouth coordination.

I would recommend this restaurant in terms of taste and comfortability. However, if you’re not comfortable spending $30 a plate, I wouldn’t steer you here.

Stay tuned for more restaurant reviews in the future! (:

Series: The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1: Shiver

Oh my oh my, when I say this book caught me by surprise, it REALLY caught me by surprise.

I started off feeling like the book was going to be mediocre, I really didn’t think the story line was anything extraordinary, until one day I realized how often I yearned to sit down and read another chapter. This book made me connect with all of the characters, to the point where I just wanted to know how they were doing and how they were going to handle the present situation. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

If I  had to describe this book in a few words: captivating, mysterious, & romantic.
In terms of the author, this is the first book I read of hers and I LOVE her writing. She has a poetic feel at times, & the way she describes each characters thoughts is so unique to each other which brings each character to truly be their own person in the story. You can really understand who they are and how they feel. The book is written in first person between Sam and Grace.

The book is based in a town where a certain pack of wolves appear in the winter, but not just any wolves.. werewolves. These are not the ordinary werewolves we are used to reading about. These humans turn into wolves after the temperature drops below a certain point, and in their werewolf form they tend to loose all sense of humanity, including forgetting the faces of those they care about. Except Sam.

Sam and the other main character, a human named Grace, have known each other for longer than they first realize. Gracelets herself be drawn and sucked in by Sams lifestyle, and before you know it their happiness depends on the others well being. However, the future seems very unsteady with the town police wanting to exterminate the wolves, and with Sams obsessed lover wanting to exterminate Grace.

This book is free with kindle unlimited (including audio!), which is why I downloaded it in the first place. And what a gem it is! The rest of the books you do have to pay for, about $8 for kindle, but I will definitely spend the money on this captivating series!

Following books:

Four stars, because it is a tad bit slow.
Totally recommend if you’re into supernatural romance novels! Enjoy!

Baked Chicken Pesto with Yellow Rice

As you may know, my friend May and I started a low calorie diet. In the name of not having to focus so much on our boyfriends food since we’re already focusing so much on ours (selfish, we know), we decided to go for some simple yet tastey entrees. In comes rice (easy and always satisfying) and some baked chicken.
Lets start with the chicken, shall we?

Baked Chicken Pesto serves 3

recipe ingredients

4 Chicken breasts (we had two big and two small)
Pesto (4 tsp per chicken, 2 for smaller ones)
Minced Garlic (2 tsp per chicken, 1 for smaller ones)
Butter (or anything you’d like to grease the baking pan with)
Aluminum Foil

On defrosted chicken, spread pesto and minced garlic to one side of the chicken breast. Place into baking pan after greasing it with the butter.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked. (Make sure to time yourself. Anymore and it would’ve been too dry).

Pan Fried Chipotle Bean Bunless Burger

Oh, you want a healthy burger you say? Oh, you are on a low carb diet?

Pan Fried Chipotle Bean Burrito Bunless Burger serves 2recipe ingredients.jpg

Black Bean Burgers – I got these at Costco, be aware they are spicy (2 patties)
Corn – 4 mini size
Veggie Blend – we used 1/2 a bag
Cilantro Avocado from Boathouse Farms

The corn takes the longest, so start off with that.
For the corn, see below preparation picture. May wrapped the corn in aluminum foil after spreading a little butter around it. Baked for about 30 minutes.

recipe corn

About 15 minutes after placing the corn in the oven, I started on the veggies. Sautéed them – after defrosting them with some water – on the stove with a bit of seasoning.
Once those were close to done (about 7-10 minutes), I put the burgers on a separate pan after spraying some olive oil. Cooked them for about 2-3 minutes each side. When they got too dry, I added some water to prevent them from burning.
Once everything was complete, we prepared our final dish!
Placed 1 patty per plate with 1/2 of the prepared veggies on top. Drizzled a little Avocado Cilantro sauce, and served 2 corn on the cob’s per plate.

This meal really filled me up and I found it super delish!

From prep to fork in hand, 40 minutes.

Happy eatingggg !
